Torquay Tourist Information

Torquay is the largest of the three towns, which make up the popular holiday region of Torbay. Affectionately known as the English Riviera, Torquay is renowned for it's excellent climatic conditions. Torbay has over 22 miles of coastline to explore and the main Torquay beach, Torre Abbey sands is just a short walk from the popular Torquay harbour side area. Also located in the Torquay harbour side is the Torquay tourist information office and The Princess Theatre. The English Riviera centre is within easy walking distance of Torre Abbey sands and for tourists who like to shop the main town centre and harbour-shopping complex is easily accessible on foot from the sea front region. Torquay has a diverse range of restaurants and eateries including Indian, Chinesse, Italian, French and Morocan to name but a few. Traditional fish and chip shops are available and fresh Brixham fish can be purchased on the harbour side. Popular entertainments in Torquay include Living Coasts (discover life by the sea) Kents cavern prehistoric caves, ten pin and crown green bowling, water sports, Torquay United football club, Torquay Athletic Rugby club and Torquay Cricket club. The main Torquay cinema is located in Abbey road part of the town center shpping region. Also in the Abbey road area are a number of restaurants, wine bars and eateries. For nights out Torquay has a diverse range of night clubs and music bars located through out both Torquay and Babbacombe. During the summer months regular entertainments include the Torquay regata, tall ship races, power boat racing, fire work displays, Red arrows display team and the traditional sea side fun fair which visits Torquay sea front.

Babbacombe is a region of Torquay, which is a holiday resort in itself. Situated just two miles from the Torquay harbour side area it has excellent transport links throughout Torbay and South Devon. From the cliff top promenade you can enjoy stunning views across Lyme Bay that, on a clear day, can stretch as far as Golden Cap in Dorset. You have the choice of two beaches, Oddicombe and Babbacombe beach. Oddicombe is a sand & shingle beach situated on the north side of the downs and can be accessed by the cliff railway. Car parking is available and the beach has services that include, toilets, café, beach shop, and deckchair/sunbed hire. Babbacombe beach a sand & shingle beach. It has a pleasant pedestrianised precinct and a fine selection of shops & eateries. Hidden away between Babbacombe and St. Marychurch, is Tessier Gardens which is a small and delightful park that was given to the town in 1933 by Mrs H.A Tessier. The gardens are for the use of adults only.
Babbacombe has a wide range of activities and shopping facilities. It boasts its very own theatre that offers traditional seaside variety shows, music, comedy and dance. Stars who have or are performing at Babbacombe Theatre include Cannon & Ball, Bruce Forsyth and Chas & Dave to name a few. Please book your seats early as the shows get sold out quite quickly. Babbacombe model Village is one of Torquays most popular visitor attractions and makes for a great day or evening out. For the sports enthusiasts there is sailing, wind surfing, diving, and sea fishing. In Cary Park you will find tennis courts and Babbacombe bowling Club. Torquay United Football Club is in the neighbouring district of Plainmore, which also has an indoor bowls club. A heated indoor swimming pool is situated at the far end of the stadium. Torquay golf club is just a short drive from Babbacombe Downs and if you enjoy relaxing in the sun-watching cricket on a hot sunny afternoon Babbacombe has its very own cricket club with pavilion and bar. If you are looking for a night out on the downs many of the bars and restaurants offer outside seating with spectacular views across Lyme bay. Car parking is available throughout Babbacombe with both pay and free spaces available. Babbacombe is serviced by excellent public transport facilities for travel to or from Torbay. Public toilets are located on the Babbacombe Downs, Manor road, Babbacombe and Oddicombe beach.
